How To Achieve Any Goal

For years I have battled with what I love to do versus what will pay the bills. I know, I know you hear all the time about how there is never a perfect time to make a career change. It’s the truth! I have always worked a full time job and then did my passion as a part time job or hobby. Although, the full time job paid very well, it just wasn’t my dream job. At this time, I lived on my own and had no family to help support me financially, so I knew I couldn’t just drop everything to follow my dreams. I started to set short term and long term goals for myself. I don’t know about you, but I love to make a list and start checking the completed items off.

Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. List out what you would like to accomplish in life (ex. Dream job, go back to school, etc.).
  2. Now pick which 5 things are most important to you
  3. Next to those 5  items, write out what you would need to do to accomplish these goals
  4. Write down time frames of when you could or would like to accomplish these goals
  5. Start working to achieve your goals

For me I wanted to go back to school to do something to help others, yet still be able to afford the life I wanted to live. I knew it was going take me some time because I had to still work full time. So I found a great school that was accredited. I knew it was going to take me 3 years to get my master’s degree. I also found a couple of great internships that I knew I would learn a lot from. Yes I worked full time, went to school, and did an internship! I graduated in the 3 years and gave myself a goal to find a job within a certain time period that I would love and I did. It was not easy, and I’m not telling you it will be. But if you are persistent and you have the drive and determination to accomplish your goals you will.

My professional goals for this year are:

  • To take my business to the next level, I’m rebranding my entire website and logo to be more me and not what everyone thinks it should be.
  • Collaborate with individuals (like you) or businesses achieve their goals.
  • Write an article to be publish
  • Start writing my book

My personal goals this year are:

  • To do some traveling, since I work to travel and not work to live it’s only right to make sure I plot my next adventure.
  • To inspire others

Here are a couple of my travel goals this year:

  • Tulum, Mexico
  • Bail, Indonesia

Writing things down helps you keep your dreams and vision alive. It makes you aware of your passion and gives you the drive to keep working on it. Thinking about your goals and things you want in life is overwhelming, but when you write it down it’s a clear statement of what it is that you want to achieve. Don’t worry it’s okay to make changes, we are human, we want what we want.  The secret to success is you! It’s never too late to start.
